Dampening System for Slatted Grills

 

After being asked so many times and seeing multiple forum posts, etc., we developed a method for controlling the heat output of individual radiators. Please note that this system is only for steam and hot water supplied cast iron radiators; using on an electric powered heater will pose a serious fire hazzard. Available on all radiator covers with slatted grills (both 2" and 1" slat models), this system is comprised of a secondary grill, which is controlled by an external slider knob, which allows you to controll your heat flow from about 100% to 20% when fully closed. This design will be very usefull in inner city condos and co-ops where heating systems are not zoned, or simply where you have a room which runs hotter than the rest. When closed, the cover will still allow about a 20% flow rate, keeping the unused heat in the sytem, which will in turn be used by other radiators in the system. By blocking the heat flow with your radiator cover on a steam or hot water system, there is no risk of damaging your heating system in any way, or the heat building up and creating a fire hazzard. Heating systems are designed to run at a set temperature (usualy about 180 degreef F) and will not heat past that point, which is also well below half the temperature needed to cause combustion of any of the materials in the cover!

The standard price to add this feature to any cover with a slatted grill, is $125 in a paint grade finish. Oversized and higher priced wood species may be a little more. All parts are solid wood. Slider knobs are hand turned and can be customized to suite. Slider knobs can also be mounted above the baseboard at the bottom of your cover if prefered.
